Step Into Spring with These Plus Size Essentials

It is time to leave that cold, dark winter season behind us and step into spring. Spring is a time for change and renewal, and we all know how hard change can be for some of us at times. It’s a time to peel off all those winter layers we subconsciously hide behind and show our true inner beauty.
Spring means warm, gorgeous weather and that will mean less clothing, more skin which can be a little scary. It means that us women begin to wear tank-tops, shorts, sun-dresses, open-toed shoes revealing all of the things most of us dread showing and hide all winter long. So what do we do? We can’t just spend another season hiding in our cozy “cover-all” clothing. It’s a time to reevaluate our thoughts and put them into a whole new positive perspective and celebrate the skin we are in. Thinking that just because I am carrying a few extra pounds does not mean I can’t enjoy this weather as much as the next woman.
This season I’ve decided that as the weather begins to warm up I will integrate essential spring pieces into my wardrobe slowly. Here are some great plus size fashion “must have” items for spring that I love from some of my favorite plus size boutiques that just might help you get your spring wardrobe off to a great start.
Start off by picking up a couple of basic tee’s. My favorite tee right now is the Sunwashed T sold at Gap for $19.95. They are available in a variety of gorgeous colors (my fav Neon Double Pink) perfect for Spring up to size XXL. These are perfect to mix and match with your favorite plus size jeans, shorts, or skirts depending on the weather.

Sunwashed T

As for bottoms to mix and match with, my first choice would be a rolled up pair of plus size jeans like these by James Jeans sold at Nordstrom. I love this style because it is perfect for those laid back, warm weather beach days and you can dress them up or down. My favorite thing is to add a colored skinny belt for little extra pop of color.

Boyfriend Jeans

My second choice in plus size bottoms for Spring would have to be a super cute pair of bright, colored, cropped skinny jeans like this style I love from Gap. These Skimmer Jeans are not only super stylish but they STRETCH which I love and are available in a variety of colors and would go perfect with a simple pair of ballet flats or sandals.

These are just a couple of great, basic, essential pieces that will help you get your spring wardrobe up and running and get you comfortable in showing off some skin.

To dress these items up throw on an easy, distinctive plus size jacket like these super cute styles available at Macys.

Jessica Simpson CollectionMacysMacys

To accessorize the look you can add a statement necklace (like the styles above) or perhaps a stylish scarf like this one I love by Passigatti available in 2 colors at Navabi and pair of sexy heels like the ones pictured above by one of my favs Marc Fisher available at Macys.

So there you have it, some easy tips for transitioning into this season of change and renewal. Be sure to go into it with a positive perspective and pick up some great basic essentials to layer into your already fabulous wardrobe. Just remember no matter what you do, always love yourself and the skin you are in!

My Guest Appearance on The Stylish Sessions with Celebrity Stylist Daniel Musto

This past week I had the opportunity to be a guest and chat about plus size style on The Stylish Sessions with my pal Celebrity Fashion Stylist Daniel Musto and Contributing Editor to Marie Claire Magazine Marcy Guevara. On The Stylish Sessions viewers receive free style advice from Daniel and his guests live and in person using Google+ Hangouts. The Stylish Channel on Google+ Hangouts is such a cool way to meet, chat, and interact with people from all over the world who share the same interests and love for fashion.

Everyone was super fun to chat with and it was very casual/comfortable just like chatting with a group of friends. The only thing missing was my favorite glass of wine in my hand…next time;) I think we make a pretty good team. Check out the show below. I come in around 59:35:)

Daniel really knows his stuff when it comes to fashion and is one of Hollywood’s leading wardrobe stylists. He is currently styling NBC’s Fashion Star and Ready for Love. Can you say talented? I was lucky enough to have Daniel style me on a recent shoot I did for JessicaSimpson.com plus size collection and we instantly hit it off. He is amazing to work with and has some sick dance moves!  With that being said…it was very smart for The Stylish to pick Daniel as the host of their show.

Marcy was also a pleasure to chat with and she really knows the in’s and out’s of the plus size fashion world. She has an awesome video blog called The Marcy Minute that discusses everything from beauty tips to the latest celebrity gossip from around the world! Be sure to check it out!

A Model in the “WORKS”….well maybe! My Daughters 1st Photoshoot with Beaux Bebes LA!

Recently my daughter Delaney had an opportunity to shoot new arrivals for an amazing local baby boutique called beaux bebes LA. This boutique is not like any other baby boutique I have been to. It is definitely a one stop shop for all of your babys needs. They not only offer amazing design threads that she was able to model in, but they also sell organic clothing & toys, Noodle & Boo skincare, original nursery wall art & murals, and luxury nursery furniture. They also have an area for consignment, which is great if you want to trade in your gently pre-owned baby items and get some new goodies. I have had the opportunity to trade in some of Delaneys gently used items and let me tell you… the owner Holly does her research to give you a reasonable amount for trade in. I was able to walk away with some adorable items for her.Needless-to-say I was more than thrilled when I was asked to take part in the photoshoot.

The photoshoot took place at beautiful, historic Strathearn Park in Simi Valley, CA. We met with photographer Nicole Aitken, who is the photographer whose photo packages are available for purchase and you can see samples of her work at beaux bebes LA. Although Delaney had a bit of a cold that day and sniffles were in full force, Nicole managed to get some amazing shots of her and Holly the owner of beaux bebes LA’s daughter Zoe who was also a model for the shoot. Nicole was very sweet and enthusiastic with the girls and kept them smiling. The shoot was smooth and quick since it can be hard to keep kids interested at this age but Nicole knew what she was doing…quite impressive.

Check out some of the beautiful images Nicole Aitken captured of the girls and the gorgeous designs offered at beaux bebes LA.

To see more adorable pictures and super cute clothes from Delaneys photoshoot be sure to visit and like beaux bebes LA’s Facebook page or you can visit beauxbebesla.com where they ship ANYWHERE in US or Canada.

If you are interested in booking a photo session with Nicole Aitken Photography you may do so at beaux bebes LA. Be sure to book well in advance. I tried to book a session for Delaneys headshots recently since I was so impressed with her work, but she is booked out until February 2013 and I was heart broken.  This woman’s work is amazing so she is in high demand and busy but will be worth the wait. She has an amazing eye for detail and will capture your child at their best. Not only did I receive beautiful images of my daughter that I will cherish forever but look at how I received my disc….beautiful! Be sure to like her on Facebook!

Sooooo, what do you think? Aren’t the designs adorable? Believe me, I wanted to take everything home. Do you think I should start looking for an agency to represent Delaney? How cute would it be if she followed in Mommys footsteps and she became a Model?

Check out a shot of me Danielle Line when I was little and my Mom tried to get me into modeling. Fun times!

The Samburu Project’s Forever 21 International Fashion Collection Launch Party

Recently I had an opportunity to attend an exclusive launch party at the L.A. Mart for a sneak peak at The Samburu Project’s Forever 21 international fashion collection. For Spring 2012, Forever 21 joined forces with The Samburu Project, a Santa Monica based non-profit organization which drills freshwater wells in Africa.

The event showcased a Forever 21 pop up shop featuring the unique, colorful Give to Love. Love to Give Samburu fashion collection (which of course I scored a few pieces) and an exhibition of photography called The Face of Water which was absolutely beautiful and highlighted their efforts to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in Northern Kenya. Every day many children die worldwide due to the lack of access to clean, safe drinking water. Through the projects drilling initiatives, The Samburu Project provides a simple solution to this extraordinary problem.

In deciding what to wear to the event I knew I wanted a dress that was bright, colorful for Spring, sexy, and classy to suit the event. So of course I visited my favorite website for plus size dresses IGIGI.com and found the most amazing dress called the Renata Dress in Jade Green  As soon as I saw this dress I was in love. This dress said water to me with the beautiful color and had all the elements I was looking for…especially SEXY! The style of the dress is soooo me its ridiculous with the all over ruching heaven. The stretch jersey was super comfortable and hugged my curves all night long while mingling with the local supporters, celebrities, and Los Angeles social elite.

Needless-to-say the event was a complete success! Not only was I able to support a great cause, I was able to do so looking and feeling fabulous.

To learn more and be part of the simple solution visit TheSamburuProject.org

Coming Soon!

I’m starting up a new blog, so stay tuned via my Facebook page for the launch announcement.
